Mycobind (Binder)

$56.00

Mycobind is specifically used in Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (CIRS) and biotoxin illnesses. Mycobind contains dietary supplements including okra and beet juice extract. Okra (Abelmoschus esculentus) fruit (4:1 extract) helps to remove inflammatory cytokines and compounds that are produced in CIRS (Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome) and other biotoxin illnesses. Beet root juice extract helps with nitric oxide production and liver detoxification. MycoBind supports immune and detoxification issues.

Recommended Uses:
Helps support immunity and decreases exposure to biotoxins.

Ideally use in the preparation of the Shoemaker protocol (Pre-Cholestyramine, Colesevelam, and/or Welchol binders). Mycobind does not work as effectively as the binder medications but some patients require a lighter dose before starting the Rx binder. Work with a professional.

Recommended Dosages:
1 scoopful 2 times daily, preferably on an empty stomach; mix in beverage, drink; up to 2 scoops 2 times daily

Ideally use in the preparation of the Shoemaker protocol (Pre-Cholestyramine, Colesevelam, and/or Welchol). Work with a professional.

Make sure you have pre-loaded with Resolvins (Omaprem) and Omega-3s (Biomega-500 or MegaOmega). Contact customersupport@nutritionwithjudy.com if you are unfamiliar with the CIRS protocol. You can start here, too.

Note: If you are sensitive to oxalates, you should not take this product.

Background
Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (CIRS), also known as biotoxin illness, describes a group of symptoms, lab results, and targeted test results associated with biotoxin exposure, especially in genetically susceptible people. Most of what we know about biotoxin illness is the result of practice-based studies done by physician and researcher, Dr. Ritchie Shoemaker, and his research dates back to 1997. When practicing family medicine in the rural coastal town of Pocomoke, Maryland, he linked a previously undefined illness to a toxin produced by a fish killing dinoflagellate known as Pfiesteria. Since then, Dr. Shoemaker has linked this same kind of illness to toxins from water-damaged buildings, as well as toxins associated with tick-borne microbes. Over time, Dr. Shoemaker developed a thorough description of this illness and called it Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (CIRS). Through his practice-based research, he also developed methods to diagnose and treat this illness, bringing back health to thousands of patients worldwide.

Inhalation of mold, bacteria, and inflammagens that create a biochemical “stew” in water-damaged buildings.

Biotoxins can result in exposure from:

  • Shoemaker estimates that 80% of CIRS cases are caused by repeated exposure to water-damaged buildings.
  • Tick or spider bite: Individuals may not always realize they have been bitten by a tick, though the infections ticks carry can include Lyme disease (Borrelia burgdorferi) and Babesiosis (Babesia microti), among others.
  • Recluse spider bite (especially the Brown Recluse in the US) species may also cause biotoxin illness.
  • Ingestion: Individuals who have eaten reef fish contaminated with dinoflagellate algae (that produces Ciguatera toxin) may develop an illness
  • Exposure to the Ciguatera toxin occurs when eating reef fish that have eaten smaller fish that consumed the toxin producing dinoflagellate.
  • Direct contact with contaminated water. Individuals may be exposed through direct contact with water contaminated by toxins in areas of fish kills such as Pfiesteria and
Cyanobacteria, including inhalation of airborne or aerosolized toxins from this source.

Figures 1 and 2 show the way biotoxins affect an individual who is and who is not genetically susceptible to biotoxin illness. However, keep in mind that chronic health conditions and other environmental exposures like heavy metals or POPs (persistent organic pollutants) can impact immunity can allow non-genetically susceptible individuals become susceptible.

  • Age is a factor for biotoxin susceptibility
  • Genetic susceptibility: The more P-gp-reducing variations an individual has in their ABCB1 gene, the more likely they are to suffer from chronic inflammatory response syndrome from Lyme after an acute Borrelia infection. Those who carry a specific gene called the HLA-DR gene, can have difficulty recovering from mold and other toxin exposures including Lyme.

Supporting Research:

Okra Extract
Okra (Abelmoschus. esculentus) possesses a number of important biological activities, including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory, antibacterial, anticancer, antidiabetic, organ protective, and neuroprotective action. 1 Okra is reported to effectively bind to bile acids (34% compared to cholestyramine 100%).2 Cholestyramine (Questran) is a potent toxin/mycotoxin binder.

Because of its high amount of mucilage, okra is also used in traditional medicine as a dietary meal to treat gastric irritation. A 2014 laboratory study reported a nonspecific interaction between high molecular weight polysaccharides from okra fruits and H. pylori surface that leads to strong antiadhesive effects to stomach tissue.3 Okra polysaccharides are antioxidant, and clinical effects including blood glucose and insulin regulation are attributed to this property.4 Okra’s antioxidant effects in diabetes models are attributed to PI3K/AKT mTOR Pathway-medicated Nrf2
transport.

Beet Juice Powder
Beet juice has become a highly studied supplement in the past decade for its ability to improve nitric oxide (NO) production in laboratory and human studies.5 Improvement of nitric oxide from dietary nitrates helps improve blood vessel pliability and allows for increased blood flow to vital organs. 6 This is evident in beet juice’s ability to decrease blood pressure in hypertensive patients and beet juice may improve male sexual dysfunction.7

Important for Mycobind supplement, beets are also reported to bind to bile acids (54% binding vs. cholestyramine 100%).8 Cholestyramine (Questran) is a potent toxin/mycotoxin binder.

The potent activity of NO against intracellular pathogens and the in vivo resistance of Borrelia burgdorferi (Lyme) to NO suggests that this organism is not located in an intracellular compartment during an essential portion of its infection of the mammalian host.9 Mitochondrial superoxide levels are significantly higher in Lyme borreliosis patients as compared to healthy controls.10 Studies report that NO is necessary for the complete elimination of B. burgdorferi by macrophages.11 Beet juice may also help with athletic performance. A 2018 review of 9 clinical studies reported that beetroot juice is given as a single dose or over a few days may improve performance at intermittent, high-intensity efforts with short rest periods.12 The improvements observed were attributed to faster phosphocreatine resynthesis which could delay its depletion during repetitive exercise efforts. In addition, beetroot juice supplementation could improve muscle power output via a mechanism involving a faster muscle shortening velocity. The findings of some studies also suggested improved indicators of muscular fatigue, though the mechanism involved in this effect remains unclear.

Nu-Flow®
Nu-Flow is an organic manufacturing option to replace synthetics or other anticaking agents including SiO2 tri-calcium phosphate (or talc) with a natural or certified organic ingredient. Nu-FLOW® is made from organic rice hulls that are sterilized and ground to a fine powder for use as an anticaking agent in dietary supplement manufacturing processes.

Toxicity, Contraindications, or Side Effects:
There are no known toxicities or side effects from taking ingredients found in Mycobind. However, beets have been reported to contain high levels of oxalates. Anyone predisposed to kidney issues like stones should only use Mycobind under the supervision of a healthcare practitioner.

Make sure to obtain appropriate laboratory testing for confirmation of CIRS, Lyme or other biotoxin illness.

Strongly encouraged as a pre-and during treatment for Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome.
